The Government of India is implementing the scheme of Vocationalisation of School Education under ‘Samagra Shiksha (holistic education) - an integrated scheme for school education, which is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India meant for school education. It covers pre-school to Grade 12, with the broader goal of  improving school effectiveness measured in terms of equal opportunities for schooling and equitable learning outcomes.

The Institute organises academic programmes and activities approved by  Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) and Project Approval Board (PAB) every year. Under PAC the institute organised in four different categories viz., Research, Development, Training and Extension and under PAB the Institute undertakes programmes and projects on development of curricula, Students textbooks and guidelines and conducts consultative meetings on vocationalisation of school education under Samagra Shiksha and Kaushal Mela.
